What is EFT?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. Commonly called tapping, it uses a gentle tapping on the Chinese meridian system points instead of needles and combines it with verbalizing a problem, symptom, belief, or emotion in the style of Western psychology or Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) to restore balance to the energy system.
Where did it come from?
Dr. Roger Callahan founded Thought Field Therapy (TFT) because he realized that tapping on different acupuncture points helped relieve people of different stresses. Gary Craig simplified which points to tap on and created EFT. He trained a group of people as EFT Founding Masters including Carol Look, and it has spread from there.
How is it done?
EFT focuses on 8 of the acupuncture points. You tap on these points while in a high state of emotion (or while thinking about a certain stress or problem) and talking about it. The points are: eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, under the arm, top of the head.
How does it work?
EFT has three main benefits. First, it reduces that “high-stress” feeling we have when experiencing or remembering a stressful situation. This is the most immediate benefit. The second benefit, and my favorite, is that once that stress or emotion level is out of the way, you get a clarity on your life, or the situation, even if it is long in the past. You get realizations and epiphanies that you weren’t able to get to before because of the emotional level you were at. And third, now that your energy is balanced in the situation, you are able to operate from a completely different place. It’s like you’re a different person, in a good way. You are able to move forward and make decisions that seemed difficult or impossible before.
Can I do it myself?
Absolutely. This is a non-invasive and very helpful tool to deal with stress or any other emotion or problem, no matter how old it is. It can be used anytime. However, it may be helpful to have someone coach you along because as we know, our own problems tend to consume us. Sometimes tapping can bring up emotions or memories that have been buried a long time. Sometimes we can’t think of what to say next, and other times it just helps to have a spare set of eyes and ears when we detox old emotions, paradigms or thought patterns.
Is this what I can expect if I work with Abigail?
Yes, this is a big part of what I do when working with clients, but it is only one of several modalities. There is an array of tools that can be used to achieve lasting change or to manifest your greatest good. I base what is used on each individual and their circumstances.
